With the advances of materials and surface treatments, ceramic implants are becoming more versatile. Initially there were only one-piece ceramic implants that limited the clinicians only to cement-retained restorations. Nowadays, multiple ceramic implant manufacturers offer a wide array of prosthetic solutions, including locator type removable overdentures. The next advance in ceramic implantology would be the introduction of MUA type
abutments that would allow for screw-retained fixed full arch restorations.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn how, even though bone provides the space to place the implant, it cannot compensate for esthetics as effectively, and it cannot protect the bone against peri-implant diseases
  • Explore how mucogingival surgery can enhance clinical outcomes
  • Learn about the timing and indications for mucogingival surgery in implant therapy, as well as ways to decrease morbidity
