Maintaining the volume after tooth extraction with preservation techniques in the sense of primary prevention is not yet possible with available materials. An innovative and less invasive technique called “socket – shield” was developed in order to prevent buccal bone plate resorption. The idea of this technique is to leave a part of the root fragment on the buccal side in the course of immediate implant placement. This allows us to maintain the normal periodontium and the gingival tissues which help in keeping the crestal bone on its original level.
Learning Objectives:
Examine the fate of labial plate of bone
Learn about the advantages of partial extraction therapy
Acquire deep knowledge of the surgical and prosthetic steps of socket shield
